01

Hi! My name is Mariana Durst and I’m a Brand Strategist for Fine Artists based in Rochester, MI, United States.

02

Outside work you will often find me painting in my barn-turned-art-studio(VIEW)

03

But on a typical workday, I am usually helping artists sell their art online with all my emotional support drinks (i.e. coffee, hydration water, smoothie, etc) within reach.

04

My day usually starts with a morning facial cleansing routine.

05

Most of the time I am working on artist's brand strategies, mentorship calls, or on Voxer with my mastermind.

Nothing will happen if your art remains unseen. Anything can happen if you share it with abandon.

06

What are your first memories of the Internet?

The sweet, sweet sound of connecting to the internet, hearing "You've got mail!" and reading the Design Sponge blog faithfully.

07

What is the best part about the process of building websites for you?
Every website I make makes the world more beautiful and connected. The stories I get to tell online via branding, web design, and copywriting, feel like artwork to create. My artist clients are pursuing wild dreams with their art. It's wildly inspiring, and a privilege to serve them.

08

What is your favorite stretch or pastime in between coding?

Listening to music to help me focus or power through.

09

How would you describe your Standout Style in 2-3 words? Playful. Artsy. Otherworldly.

10

Which Standout workshops do you find yourself incorporating most often on your website projects?
All of them!

11

What makes your work standout?

The fact that my websites take site visitors on a journey that immerses them in my artist clients' art and story.

12

What are the biggest takeaways from the Standout programs?

I love that Standout Squarespace allowed my designs to get wings. I was finally able to execute the full expression of my vision for my clients.

13

What is your dream website project?

I love working with passionate artists who are driven to share their art and message. I love the energy that exists when an artist is ready to embrace the process of sharing their art with their heart!

05

Imagine having a presence so compelling and powerful, it turns even passive observers into engaged participants in your mission.

Floppy disks, dial-up & AOL

07

What is the best part about the process of building websites for you?
I love translating a client's brand, story and vision into a strategic and beautiful online home. It's a dream to do work that involves words, images, technology AND business - it's truly a whole-brain activity.

08

What is your favorite stretch or pastime in between coding?

Yoga

09

How would you describe your Standout Style in 2-3 words? Modern. Earthy. Fresh.

10

Which Standout workshops do you find yourself incorporating most often on your website projects?
Split Sections, Horizontal Fluid Tabs, Sticky & Multiple Scrolling

11

What makes your work standout?

I consider the full picture - from branding to marketing - in order to create a user experience and flow that honors the brand essence and also creates a captivating journey for website visitors.

12

What are some of your proudest works you've worked on?

ENVISION is my first signature Squarespace template (to be launched Summer 2024).
The brand concept is a retreat and environmental learning center in remote Colorado requiring a new website that showcases their programs and elicits support for its nonprofit mission.

The goal was to leverage Squarespace's built-in features with minimal coding, creating a responsive website that not only evokes the wonder of nature but generates brand awareness and leads for ENVISION’s offerings, including retreats, courses and gear - and establish the website as a template that can be adapted to varied use cases.

The website was built for responsiveness on common device sizes using both fluid engine and classic editor sections in Squarespace 7.1, with testing for accessibility, page performance and SEO.

Key features include use of video and parallax animation to create visual interest and movement, minimal and smart CSS & JavaScript customizations.

I kept the design elegant and simple so template users can easily envision how their own brand can shine within the pages and sections.

13

What are the biggest takeaways from the Standout programs?

I've learned to be patient and practice. Every day is a new adventure and bring something new to learn and apply. I love understanding how to implement smart coding strategies to make development efficient. My capacity for web design has grown exponentially and continues to expand, and that makes me excited for the next project!

14

What is your dream website project?

My dream website project is always a great redesign. I love a transformation that creates a big IMPACT for an aspirational or purpose-led business.

01

Hi! My name is Colette Smith and I’m a Frontend Developer and Designer based in Woodbridge, Suffolk UK.

02

Outside work you will often find me with headphones on, exploring the latest art exhibitions, taking photos, dabbling in some diy, reading some trashy crime novels, practicing yoga, or just hanging out with my dogs and family. (VIEW)

03

But on a typical workday, I am usually deep in design work or debugging some code! You can often find me tweaking a website's layout, brainstorming solutions with my team, or dreaming up new ideas for a development collaboration—essentially, I'm always busy running my studio.

04

My day usually starts with COFFEEEEE.

05

Most of the time I am working on integrating micro interactions and animations.

CS_STUDIO is a UK based independent creative studio, founded by Colette in 2018. Her approach is strategic and collaborative, bringing fresh ideas and a contemporary concept to her projects. She holds a software engineering certification, with a specialism in front end development.

Colette studied BA Fine Art at Central St Martins, University of the Arts, London.

06

What are your first memories of the Internet?

I remember making myself a pure HTML site for my photography portfolio straight out of art school. It was definitely brutalist ... very basic CSS then!

07

What is the best part about the process of building websites for you?
The best part about building websites is the opportunity to create a platform that truly reflects who my clients are and showcases them at their best. It's incredibly rewarding to transform their vision into a functional and aesthetically pleasing online presence that not only meets their needs but also enhances their brand's image.

08

What is your favorite stretch or pastime in between coding?

Cuddling my dogs!

09

How would you describe your Standout Style in 2-3 words? Bold. Masculine. Monochromatic.

10

Share your unique style, your design philosophy and/or aesthetics that appeal to you.
I consider myself a design chameleon. I love studying vintage magazines and books to gather inspo as much as I love seeing what's new on Pinterest. I try my best to combine the best of new and old while providing a safety net depending on the niche my clients are in.

11

Which Standout workshops do you find yourself incorporating most often on your website projects?
STICKY CARDS! I love this feature and I’ve used it a few times, in the sites below. Croftcode →Simulated Aesthetic Scenarios →

12

What makes your work standout?

What makes my work stand out is the unique blend of artistic sensibility and technical expertise that I bring to each project. With a foundation in fine art from Central St. Martins and a specialisation in front-end development, I approach website design not just as a technical challenge, but as an artistic endeavour. This allows me to create bespoke websites that are not only technically robust but also visually compelling and perfectly tailored to each client’s brand and audience.

13

What are the biggest takeaways from the Standout programs?

Some of my biggest takeaways from the Standout programs revolve around maximising the potential of tools like Squarespace to deliver fully customised websites. I've learned to push the boundaries of standard templates by applying unconventional design techniques and advanced coding. This approach allows me to transform basic layouts into unique, tailored web experiences that stand out. It’s taught me the importance of thinking outside the box and adapting tools to meet specific artistic visions and functional demands.
Also the level of support received on the course was unparalleled.

14

What is your dream website project?

I would love to build a beautiful clean website for an architecture firm.
