Hi! My name is Samara Bortz and I’m a Website Designer based in Edmonton, Canada

Outside work you will often find me singing, cooking, running, reading, and playing with my toddler. (VIEW)

But on a typical workday, I am usually at my laptop by 10:00 am, working on a website project and sending a bajillion voice notes to my co-founder, Isobel.

My day usually starts with coffee, journalling, a workout, and meditation.

Most of the time I am working on website designs, branding projects, podcast recordings, and Substack posts.

What is the best part about the process of building websites for you?
Hearing our clients get SO excited when they read and look through their new website draft for the first time.

What is your favorite stretch or pastime in between coding?
Coffee and chocolate.

Which Standout workshops do you find yourself incorporating most often on your website projects?
Split sections, changes to the header navigation, and all the fun typography customizations.

What makes your work standout?
In Tandem Studios brings copy and design together from the start. We believe that the words and the visuals must work together to create a website that keeps the wheels spinning and clients booking.

What are some of your proudest works you've worked on?
Wildflowers are PrayersWebsite →This was a client project for an online writing community.
We started by creating the visual identity by customizing one of our brand kits and curating a collection of stock images. Then, we wrote the copy and brought the design to life, using a few of the Standout workshops, including:
- Typewriter effect
- Side Swipe Pages
- Portfolio Image on Hover
- Tables

What are the biggest takeaways from the Standout programs?
Rache is an incredible teacher! I've also found her approach to scoping sections to be invaluable for helping clients to navigate and easily update their customized websites.

What is your dream website project?
We would love to work with more local Canadian businesses in Edmonton or Vancouver Island!
